about

Águeda is the debut album Paulo Santo, recently released by the portuguese publisher robalo. The band has some of the most rated and original portuguese jazz musicians from the new generation, João Mortágua (saxs alto/soprano), Luís Cunha (trumpet), Francisco Brito (double bass) and João Lopes Pereira (drums).
The pack creates a piece of immersive polyphonic music with a wide timbre spectrum, captivating the listener with rhythmic and harmonic ambiguity as the song across different environments, textures, and musical ideas.
Santo's music allows every member to be featured throughout different themes and sections with the whole band supporting the soloist(s) and guiding the audience over the compositions. Although Santo's strong personal character marks the writing of this original and fresh music the arrangements create plenty of space for every member to express their full musicianship and talent. Far from traditional jazz, the music can be categorized as a crossover, with a wide variety of influences and genres.
